Alternative Treatments for Incontinence Pt 3
In this three-part series, we've been exploring alternative treatments for incontinence. In part one, we looked at the benefits of acupuncture. In part two, we examined the Chinese herb Zhuanggu. In this final installment, we'll be taking a closer look at another Chinese herb known as Hou Po.
Hou Po is an herb that has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. Hou po is traditionally used to treat indigestion, but recent studies have shown that it may also be effective in treating incontinence. The active ingredient in hou po is Magnolia Bark extract, which has been shown to relax the muscles and nerves of the pelvic floor. This can help to alleviate symptoms of incontinence such as leakage and urgency.
In a 2008 study, a group of 30 women with stress incontinence were given a daily dose of hou po extract for eight weeks. At the end of the study, the participants showed a significant improvement in their symptoms compared to those who did not receive the herb. Additionally, there were no adverse side effects reported.
If you're looking for an alternative treatment for incontinence that is safe and effective, Hou Po extract may be worth considering. This traditional Chinese herb has been used for centuries to treat indigestion, but recent studies suggest it may also help to relieve symptoms of stress incontinence. If you decide to try Hou Po extract, be sure to consult with your healthcare provider first to ensure it is safe for you to take.
