TENA Lady MAXI Night is the latest product to be added to the Allanda Range of Incontinence Pads.

The newest product in the TENA Lady range, TENA Lady Maxi NIGHT is specifically made for use at night. Specially designed to give you a good night’s sleep, these soft and comfortable towels give you additional protection due to their specific shape – they’re wider at the back for extra coverage and absorbency when you are lying down.

These incontinence pads are body shaped to give a close fit to ensure comfort and leakage security. They are designed to fit into your own underwear securely using a self-adhesive strip. When necessary they can be easily removed and should be hygienically disposed of.

Other benefits of the TENA Lady products also include:

During 2012 we will be continuing to expand our product range. We’ve now added two more products to our skincare range, TENA Skin Lotion and Tena CellDuk.

TENA Skin Lotion is is a mild moisturising lotion for sensitive skin that is enriched with natural moisturisers, and is especially suitable for restoring fragile skin (and is suitable for use on larger areas).

Healthcare professionals agree that consistent personal skincare is essentoal to maintain skin integrity and well-being for elderly, incontinent individuals. This is because their skin heals slowly and is fragile to pressure and rubbing. The skin may also be sensitive to ongoing exposure to moisture (especially urine or faeces) which can initiate skin degradation causing irritation, itching or infection.

We’ve also added the TENA Cellduk Wipes to our range. These are a strong, highly absorbent wash cloth (27x25cm) designed to quickly and gently cleanse the skin or apply moisturising and protective products (see below for full list). This soft, gentle towel like wash cloth is re-inforced with nylon threads for extra high strength when wet. As well as being extra strong it is also highly absorbent so performs like a textile flannel when wet. It is compatible with soap and water, wash cream, wash mousse and oils so is very suitable for bed bath routines as well as general cleansing.

The Full TENA Skincare range is Wash Cream, Wash Mousse, Wet Wipes, Soft Wipes, Wash Glove, Cellduk Wipes and Skin Lotion.

After yesterday’s post, someone enquired as to what Incontinence Pants we offered. For the terms of this article we are talking about disposable incontinence pants or “pull up underwear” as they are often referred to, rather than washable incontinence pants.

Lil Pants

We offer the full ranges of both Tena and Lille incontinence pants.

Tena Pants come in a wide variety of absorptions, from Tena Pants Discreet for light stress incontinence, through Tena Pants Normal and Tena Pants Plus to Tena Pants Super for heavier conditions, especially urge incontinence. Tena Pants Super is also good for helping to contain faecal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) though as with all incontinence products they won’t absorb faecal matter and will need to be changed once any incident occurs. Lil Incontinence Pants come in Extra, Super and Maxi absorbencies. Again the Maxi absorbency is also suitable for managing faecal conditions.

One advantage of the Lille Incontinence Pants is that all three absorptions are available in an Extra Large Size. However the downside is that only the Maxi absorbancy is available in a Small size in the Lil range.

On the other hand both the Tena Pants Plus and Super ranges offer a small size. The Tena Pants Plus range offers not just Small, Medium and Large sizes but also an Extra Large and an Extra Small size. The Extra Small size is ideal for teenagers and small children who benefit from using pull-up’s rather than more traditional all in one style products.

All our incontinence pant products are unisex and are designed to be worn by both Men and Women.

Unfortunately it’s very difficult to find the right product first time and often there is a level of trial and error, (which is why we offer our range of sample packs which enable customers to try a wide variety of products), and the general rule is to start with the least absorbent product, and increase absorbency used if you experience leaks.

However for Incontinence pants we have a slightly different recommendation. As the lightest Incontinence Pants (TENA Pants Discreet) are designed for lighter conditions, then they may not be suitable for many customers. Therefore with Incontinence Pants we recommend starting in the middle of the range (e.g. TENA Pants Plus or Lille Pants Extra). If the wearer finds they are still experiencing leaks then they should try the next absorbency level, Super or even Maxi.

As these items can be quite bulky, then if the starting product is more than adequate then the wearer may well want to try the lighter products such as TENA Pants Discreet, as these offer large benefits in terms of discretion, albeit at the expense of absorption, but this trade off is felt to be worth it for many wearers.

With Belted All in One Incontinence Pads (otherwise known as “Flex” products) becoming increasingly widely used to manage heavier incontinence conditions we’ve broadened our range to include the full Tena Flex range.

Tena Flex fitting

These products are particularly easy to put on, due to the integrated Velcro belt system, to which the pad hooks on at the front, making it particularly easy to fix the pad closely to the body. At the same time, the Velcro means that the pad can be dropped away for regular toilet use without removing the product from the body entirely. These benefits make Flex pads easier to use than traditional All in One (Slip type) pads, especially for those who are mobile. The other key benefit is that Flex Incontinence Pads can be put on in the seated or standing position as well.

People with overactive bladder syndrome may benefit from making certain behavioural changes, according to a new review in Nursing Times.

Angela Patterson, lead clinical nurse specialist in bladder and bowel dysfunction at Bangor Community Hospital in Northern Ireland, has written an article on the subject in which she discusses some of the more common behavioural therapies that are used to treat the condition.

Overactive bladder is characterised by urinary urgency, with some people also experiencing urinary incontinence and becoming dependent on products such as Tena Comfort incontinence pads.

Ms Patterson cited research dating back to 2003 which found that 17 per cent of women and 16 per cent of men in the US were affected by overactive bladder syndrome, while a separate study among a sample population in Europe and Canada, published in 2008, found prevalence rates of 13 per cent in women and 11 per cent in men.

She pointed out that the condition has a “detrimental” effect on several aspects of people’s lives, including their professional, social and recreational activities, sexual function and relationships.

According to the nurse specialist, patients may be advised to make a number of behavioural changes, such as drinking plenty of certain types of fluid, reducing their caffeine intake, stopping smoking and losing weight.

Ms Patterson noted that the evidence base to support weight loss and smoking cessation is “limited and contradictory”, but that both goals should be encouraged, “not only to improve continence but also for the other potential health benefits”.

Caffeine, meanwhile, is thought to adversely affect continence and Ms Patterson said that in her experience, “caffeine moderation has proved beneficial in the clinical setting in improving urge incontinence and frequency”.

In conclusion, she said: “Behavioural interventions aim to improve quality of life of patients with overactive bladder and empower them to control their symptoms on a long-term basis.

“Both patients and clinicians need to invest time to be successful in this.”
